ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
Join Joe Subolefsky for an unforgettable six-day photography expedition through the breathtaking landscapes of Newfoundland. Accompanied by his wife Amanda—who will assist with logistics, meals, and share her passion about birds—this small-group adventure offers a perfect balance of expert instruction, stunning wildlife, and coastal scenery.
The journey begins in St. John’s and ventures south to stunning dramatic cliffsides offering you multiple sessions at Newfoundland’s largest seabird colony, home to 30,000 Northern Gannets, 20,000 Black-legged Kittiwakes, and 20,000 Common Murres. These breathtaking cliffside rookeries offer world-class photographic opportunities.
Weather permitting, we’ll also take advantage of Newfoundland’s certified dark sky status to photograph the Milky Way at this location. The trip is carefully timed to align with both the dark phase of the moon and peak seabird nesting season, offering optimal conditions for both day and night photography.
The adventure continues as the group moves north to a dramatic peninsula lined with towering cliffs and expansive seascapes. Here, you’ll photograph charismatic Atlantic Puffins as they clumsily go about their lives near their burrows—an absolute highlight for any wildlife photographer. You’ll also have opportunities to capture Black Guillemots, Razorbills, gulls galore, and songbirds like Savannah and White-throated Sparrows.
Beyond birds, we’ll seek out Newfoundland’s striking Cross-Fox and embark on two zodiac excursions in search of migrating whales, including Minke, Sperm, Humpback, Orca, and Finback species.
This is more than just a photo trip—it’s an immersive, guided experience in one of North America’s most vibrant coastal ecosystems.
Included: Transportation during the workshop, housing, two meals a day, free washer and dryer to do your own laundry, full shared kitchen, two sessions on the zodiac boat capturing whales, five sessions shooting Atlantic Puffins, Cross-Fox, Sparrows, Gulls, Black Guillemot and more.
